Cake Shop Update

Well… I guess you can say I officially have a job now :) Chris and I finally got around to totaling up the time I spend per week on cakes, and so far I have enough orders each week to count as a part-time job :) Some weeks it’s even full-time! Yee haw!

This little business is growing pretty fast!

I now have a logo, designed by the lovely Fonda LaShay.

Chelsea’s Cool Cakes was also asked to partner with the Salvation Army’s thrift shop (Fretex here in Norway) to showcase some cakes at a bridal fair they were organizing to help sell a big donation of wedding dresses they received. They needed some cakes and samples to make the event seem more wedding-ish and I needed some advertising! Win win!

You can check out one of the news features we received here:

“At the launch event on 3rd May, brides will be able to have trial wedding photographs taken by Algård Fotostudio and sample the very unique wedding cakes of local baker, Chelsea’s Cool Cakes.”

That’s me! Chelsea’s Cool Cakes in print!

The flyer for the event. See my little cake down at the bottom? It was also the maiden voyage of the logo!

Even Julie got in on some of the action and took some “trial” wedding photos :)

The event was a success. Although not as many people came to participate as the organizers had hoped, they were able to drum up a lot of press for Fretex and have high hopes of seeing the results in sales and donations this upcoming summer. And for me, it was great to see my cakes in action! Hopefully I’ll get a bit of extra business as well!

The Marvelous Adventures of Julie K. Walton – Part 2

…Continued from The Marvelous Adventures of Julie K. Walton

Once Julie K. Walton arrived safely in Stavanger after her Norway In A Nutshell expedition, she quickly realized that her Norwegian adventures had only just begun. Together with Chelsea and Chris, she climbed mountains, gazed over perilous cliffs, traversed the fjords, surfed the North Sea, ate reindeer, celebrated Norway’s Constitution Day, and made lots of new friends. It was a grand adventure indeed!

We love you Jules!

The Marvelous Adventures of Julie K. Walton

Once upon a time, a lovely lass named Julie K. Walton had the hardest semester ever in college. No sleep, no social life, and no showers. Just homework, homework, and tests. So, after her last grueling final of the semester, she decided she had finally had enough and hopped across the Atlantic ocean for a 3 week adventure with her best friends in the mystical land of the vikings.

It was a wondrous 21 days. It all began in Oslo where she toured the city on her own for a day and a night before she met up with her friends. When they were joyously reunited, after over a year apart, the trio hopped the night train back across the country to Bergen to traverse the famous Norway In A Nutshell route (well…at least it’s famous in these parts). They took various buses, ferries, and trains there and back again from Bergen, stopping in small towns like Voss, Gundvangen, Flåm and Myrdal.

Julie K. Walton got a pretty good taste of Norway in her first 4 days, but the adventure was just beginning…

To be continued…

National LDS Church Conference in Oslo

In April, there was a momentous gathering of members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Norway. A call went out for as many saints who could make it to gather in Oslo for the first national gathering of church members in over 20 years. Unfortunately, Chris was still doing his 3 week stint in Germany…but I opted to go on my own and was sure glad I did!

The meetings were wonderful and it was awesome to see the church gathered together and unified. And a bit humbling to realize that the entire membership of the church Norway barely equalled the number of members at our Stake Conferences back home.  It’s growing though! Enough so that…drumroll for the best news of the weekend… they are creating a second stake here in Norway! Previously, the church here was organized with one stake in the Oslo area and then the Stavanger district and another district up north.  The Stavanger Branch has now become the Stavanger Ward part of the Drammen, Norway Stake! The members here have been waiting a loooong time for a second stake so it was wonderful news indeed. Now they are hoping we’ll be more on track for a Norway temple!

Finally ran into Sister Jessica Taylor! (She’s a sweet girl from my ward back in Vegas serving her mission here in Norway)

Since the night train arrived in Oslo at 7am and the first conference meeting wasn’t scheduled to start until 5:00 that evening, I had a lot of time to kill running around exploring Oslo.

Surf’s Up Media Team!

BREAKING NEWS!

It has been over 80 degrees here in Stavanger this past week! Holy smokes it’s been incredible! I actually sweat OUTSIDE when I’m not even running! I know…I know…it’s a miracle! It seems like the entire town has been outside enjoying the sun, beaches, and complete lack of rain (see exhibit A), and Chris and his media team are no exception!

Exhibit A

The usually deserted swimming pond by our apartment.

They decided to be surf bums for a day go on a team building excursion to enjoy the sunshine and warm(er) water. Since everybody in the crew now has their own GoPro, a great video was born (and edited by YJ) which of course was too much of a gem not to be shared :)

I hope you all are having as fantastic of a summer commencement as we are this week!
