Chris learns The Art of Shaving

I know there have been a lot of posts about Chris’ facial hair lately. As I’m sure you felt, the world pretty much ceased turning when he shaved it…so I guess it deserves at least one more post to document this momentous occasion.

As most of you know, Chris is a pretty classy fellow (as he just burps loudly at his computer next to me while I’m writing this). He takes great care in his personal style to make sure he looks gentlemanly. He has expressed interest numerous times in learning to shave with a straight razor like back in the good-old days, so for his birthday this year I gave him a Royal Shave treatment at The Art of Shaving.

Here’s the description from their website:

Experience the ritual of The 4 Elements of the Perfect Shave performed by our expertly trained Master Barbers. This relaxing escape begins with a hot towel and a protective layer of Pre-Shave Oil to prepare your skin. Next, Shaving Cream is applied to the face in a rich, hot lather. Our skilled Master Barbers use a tradition Straight Razor with precision and mastery to shave with the grain first, and then re-lather and shave once more against the grain for closeness. A second hot towel, infused with Lemon Essential Oil, is applied and followed by the After Shave Mask, replenishing the skin’s moisture after the shave. Next, a cold towel infused with Lavender Essential Oil, provides a soothing and relaxing experience. The Perfect Shave concludes with the Hydrating Toner and the application of the After Shave Balm to hydrate the freshly shaven skin.

Pretty gentleman-ly, don’t you think?

The After

Anyway, Chris loved it. He was a little apprehensive at first because he thought they might spend the entire time trying to push the merits of their products, but he said they mentioned it once to explain their process and then left it alone the rest of the shave. And Holy Cow it was a close shave! He had no stubble for almost 3 day and baby-soft skin to boot!

It was a great way to finally send of the beard in style :)

A Wonderful Trip Home

I know you’ve all been just DYING to see this post. I mean…who doesn’t LOVE someone else’s extended family vacation photos??? Nobody, that’s who! I would be terrible if I kept you waiting any longer, so without further ado…here’s just a quick photo summary of our trip home this summer!!!! Yaaaaay!!!!

2 weeks in Utah and 2 weeks in Vegas resulted in about 5 bajillion photos. I know…I know…you want to see ALL of them… but for now these are just some of the highlights (mostly from Instagram and my slowly dying point-&-shoot.) I’ll probably end up posting more detailed posts as the more awesome photos from Chris’ swanky work camera get edited. Maybe. :)
