It’s Hill Time!

After saying goodbye to Cameron, it was time for the Hill/wedding phase of our trip home.

It began with heading straight from the MTC to BYU for some pre-wedding family photos at the BYU duck pond. The entire Hill family hadn't been together in over five years, so family photos were long overdue! There were lots of new nieces and nephews to play with and I FINALLY got to meet Chris' brother, Michael, and his family. (I was beginning to think everyone just made him up.)

We haven't seen the official photographer photos yet, but we snapped a few on our camera in between the main shots which turned out pretty fun. Chris' family happens to be super cute and highly photogenic! Here are some previews:

Chris' sister, Shannon, and her family
Chris' elusive brother, Michael, and his family.

Our cute little niece Katie.
Tian and Jared
This face! Oh how I swoon…
Playing with the ducks because, well, it WAS a duck pond afterall. And bringing children to a duck pond without a bag of bread is just a sin.

We had a great time getting to enjoy Utah with the family!

Adventures in Brianhead

After our lovely Christmas with the Hill side of the family, we + Ryan headed down to Brianhead, Utah to meet up with the Osborn side of the family for a little skiing/snowboarding action before we all went back down to Vegas. Unfortunately, Ol’ Mama Nature decided to stick it to all the people wishing for a white Christmas and dump snow on us the day AFTER, which happened to be when we were hoping to leave. Ok, fine… we’d wait ’til morning, but not a half a day longer! We couldn’t miss this perfect snow and my family, all cooped up and waiting on us, was getting a bad case of cabin fever.

So the next morning, we headed out into the snow in Ryan’s deteriorating Neon.

“We have chains!” we said.

“We are young with iron wills, we’ll make it up the mountain!” we said.

Four slippery attempts up the mountain and 7 hours later, we found ourselves sipping hot chocolate and slurping soup and saltines at the Parowan town diner, resigning ourselves to the fact that we would not be making it up the mountain that night. And judging by the number of other stranded would-be skiers around us also slurping hot chocolate and soup, we knew we had to find a motel room fast if we didn’t want to sleep in the car.

Luckily we got the LAST motel room in town, complete with the ever-classy queen-mattresses-on-twin-frames combo, which made for a rather wobbly night. But we were just grateful to have a room! With both laptops running, we managed to introduce Ryan to both Doctor Who and Sherlock (at the same time no less. We would play one while the other buffered, and then when it quit, we would switch and watch the other one while the previous one loaded, etc. The poor little motel internet didn’t know what hit it.)

The next morning, the ice melted and we made it up the mountain all piece-of-cake-like. We met up with my family just in time to hit the slopes with my dad. Blue skies, light wind, no crowds. Booyah. Totally worth all the effort the previous night!

We documented it all with our GoPros, and it naturally turned into a pretty awesome video, if I do say so myself :)

Enjoy!

Summer can’t be over yet!

It was dark this morning when I woke up. For the first time since April. Blah. The days are getting shorter very, very fast up here near the arctic circle. which means summer is pretty much over :( Sad day. Does anyone else feel like the summer is never long enough?

So, before fall comes in full swing, I wanted to share with you a few EXTRA summery photos from our trip home to Utah when we went to Utah Lake with Chris-n-Michi, Michi’s fam, and Brian the bro.

Familia de Hill 2012

The Hill Family Reunion of July 2012 was a very momentous one. For one thing…it was my very first Hill reunion and, since the world is ending in December, probably my very last. Also, it was Grandma and Grandpa Hill’s 80th birthdays and 60th anniversary. You can decide which of these was MOST worth gathering for :)

A Wonderful Trip Home

I know you’ve all been just DYING to see this post. I mean…who doesn’t LOVE someone else’s extended family vacation photos??? Nobody, that’s who! I would be terrible if I kept you waiting any longer, so without further ado…here’s just a quick photo summary of our trip home this summer!!!! Yaaaaay!!!!

2 weeks in Utah and 2 weeks in Vegas resulted in about 5 bajillion photos. I know…I know…you want to see ALL of them… but for now these are just some of the highlights (mostly from Instagram and my slowly dying point-&-shoot.) I’ll probably end up posting more detailed posts as the more awesome photos from Chris’ swanky work camera get edited. Maybe. :)
